Client: Boardman Bikes / Halfords
Project name: The “OUCH-TAKES’
Objective: To leverage PR coverage for Boardman helmets from an unintentional bike accident
Detail / Execution: SPIN was retained to help secure a rider, location and other operational services to film a video to launch the 2011 range of Boardman mountain bikes. Whilst filming the ‘Commute’ (in 3D), rider Rob Jarman took a nasty spill. Walking away from the crash with just a few grazes, SPIN quickly saw (and seized on) the opportunity of having a dramatic crash filmed in hi-def with good production values. Securing the footage, SPIN produced the Ouch Takes from ’cutting room floor’ footage for a quick viral video which received more hits than the original ‘Commute Video’.
Evaluation: In addition to being a Youtube hit, the ‘Ouch-Takes’ sparked heated debate across mountain bike internet forums as to whether the crash was ‘staged’ (and we assure you it wasn’t) gaining even more publicity for Boardman helmets,
